'Forefowk, Mind Me' is a research, development and recording project that explores the idea of ancestors and place (and what it means to be cared for by, and care for, these things).
This short film is a documentation of its gathering phase. In April 2024 Quinie spent a week with artist Dominique Rivard, filmmaker Lizzie McKenzie, her horse Maisie, and dog Toad. Together they explored the landscapes of Argyll (namely Ford, Kilmartin Glen, Tayvallich and Carsaigs). Along the way they gathered stories, connections, place names, songs, routes, objects, and language. Together with the help of many people, they thought about the interdependent relationship between people, ancestors, animals and place. |

The film is accompanied by a book. The text explores the themes that emerged; the interdependent relationships between people, ancestors, animals and place. In part autobiographical, in part research driven, it pulls together a story of understanding heritage and a sense deep time in a contemporary context.
The book is a small work of art that was designed by Dominique Rivard, who took great care with both the graphics and the printing. It is hand bound by her, printed in two-color risograph, on soft white paper with a toothy feel and peach paper. The cover is wrapped with a dust jacket and hand stamped by me (Quinie). |
